Work In Progress – Chapter 2

Posted by in From My Head (Fiction)

Blair stepped out of her boss’s office and closed the door behind her. Her heart was pounding in her chest. She took a breath, her mind reeling. She needed to sit down. She needed a drink. She looked down at her body, she really needed to change out of this stupid dress. She needed to get her act together. First Tony, then waking up in a crappy, random apartment, then meeting her boss looking like a hooker, she needed to grow up. Ryan saw something in her worth promoting, worth…read more

Review: The Likeness

If I could die and come back as any writer, I would come back as Tana French. God, she knows what she is doing. The Likeness is the second book in her “Dublin Murder Squad” Series. I read the first, Into the Woods last year and love, love, loved it. Loved it so much that I put the rest of her books on my Christmas list. The Likeness is no different. Work In Progress – Chapter 1

Posted by in From My Head (Fiction)

This is what I think will be the first chapter of my next novel length manuscript. It’s hard to tell. What do you think?   The elevator felt like a prison. I picked up this story with mixed feelings. On one side it is getting rave reviews, has been made into a movie, and lots of my friends are talking about it on Facebook. On the other side it is YA, and generally, I’m not a huge fan. I’m not really one for “drama” for drama’s sake. I don’t like overwrought books or authors trying to make me cry. So. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. But. It isn’t so good that I could recommend…read more

A New Baby – Or – How to Outline a Novel by Someone Who Barely Knows

Posted by in Stuff About Writing

My first manuscript is finished, or finished-ish for now, as much as a manuscript can ever be finished, and is in the hands of my very capable Betas. I’ve even gotten a couple responses back and I’m really excited about what I’m seeing – engaged readers who are finding errors I missed and who are giving me so many great ideas to think about, it is amazing. I’m beginning to feel like it might actually be worth pursuing publishing, and not just putting it in a bottom drawer and forgetting…read more
